Music is an important part of life here at Spruce Lodge. We believe music has the power to affect our hearts, brains and overall health.
Music Therapy at Spruce Lodge is a specialized resident-focused program using music to promote healthcare goals, such as:
Increasing relaxation
Decreasing pain perception
Promoting gross/fine motor skills
Supporting reality orientation
Stimulating cognitive functioning
Improve or maintain social behaviors
Encouraging moments of emotional expression
Residents are offered music therapy programming participating in either a group or individual sessions.

What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is the skillful use of music and musical elements by an accredited music therapist to promote, maintain and restore mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual health. Music has non-verbal, creative, structural, and emotional qualities. These are used in the therapeutic relationship to facilitate contact, interaction, self-awareness, learning, self-expression, communication, and personal development.
