Creating familiar, engaging, and meaningful spaces for people living with dementia

Spruce Lodge has adopted the DementiAbility® model of care and is in the process of providing training to staff that focuses on abilities, not limitations, and on people and not tasks.
We are enhancing our Cottage neighbourhoods to be more familiar, engaging, and supportive for residents living with dementia
Working with SensoryScapes to introduce recognizable scenes, décor, and visual cues in hallways and sitting areas
Installing door skins to replicate
Improving lighting to support daytime alertness and calmer evenings, with adjustable, dementia-friendly controls
Repurposing underused utility areas into engagement spaces, such as:
Tinkering and tool-based activity areas
Children’s nursery or daycare area
Hands-on activity centres that reflect residents’ lifelong interests
Project Cost: The total project cost is $400,000, however thanks to the generous donation of Windmill Gardens Seniors residence, the balance remaining is $175,000.
Your generosity helps create environments that feel familiar, purposeful, and comforting; places where residents can truly engage and belong.
