Creativity and Connection at Spruce Lodge with Art-to-Heart
This summer, residents at Spruce Lodge have been enjoying regular opportunities to get creative through Art-to-Heart, a local program run by post-secondary student Lucy Webster.
Art-to-Heart provides art lessons, tutoring and respite services for people of all ages. Lucy was able to launch the business with support from the Stratford Perth Centre for Business Summer Company Program, which provides eligible high school and post-secondary students with funding and support to start their own summer businesses.
Throughout the summer, Lucy has been hosting a variety of art-based activities in the community, including group sessions with residents at Spruce Lodge Long-Term Care Home.
During these sessions, residents have had the opportunity to explore painting and drawing in a welcoming and encouraging environment. Meeting on a semi-weekly basis, the group has completed a variety of pieces and continues to show that creativity can be enjoyed at any age and at every level of experience.
The sessions have provided another way for residents to spend time together, try something creative and enjoy the process of making art.
